Our policy for Recruitment Agencies

This statement covers The University of Manchester's Careers Service policy toward recruitment agencies and other third party recruitment intermediaries.

In creating this policy, reference was made to the Best Practice in Graduate Recruitment statement agreed by the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, the Association of Graduate Recruiters and the National Union of Students.

Organisation Directory

Recruitment agencies are welcome to add their organisation profile to the Organisation Directory in CareersLink free of charge. CareersLink is our careers service management system which contains a searchable organisation directory for students as well as our vacancy advertising service.

Please ensure that you select 'Recruitment Agency' for 'Organisation Type' and select the sectors you recruit into in the 'Organisation Sector' field.

Profiles must not contain specific vacancy advertisements (see Advertising vacancies below).

When registering your organisation in CareersLink, you will also need to set-up a user account on the system and will be able to use the username and password you establish to update your own agency profile as well as to submit job vacancies on behalf of your clients. The Careers & Employability Division accepts no responsibility for out-of-date information on profiles and makes clear to students that the profiles in CareersLink are not an endorsement of any individual agency/intermediary.

Your profile will be proof-read and approved by a member of staff before it is available to students, we reserve the right not to approve your organisation profile or your user account.

Advertising vacancies

We will only advertise if the name of a client company is disclosed to the Careers Service. The identity of the client may be withheld from advertisements where clients wish to remain anonymous initially.

If a named client is not disclosed to the Careers Service, we reserve the right not to advertise the vacancy.

The Careers Service will not advertise vacancies that it reasonably believes to contravene equal opportunities, employment law or any other UK legislation. See our vacancy advertising policy for full details.

Vacancies will be advertised free of charge in CareersLink. Before you can submit vacancies through CareersLink, you must register your agency and create your own personal account on the system.

Presentations

Presentations by recruitment intermediaries promoting their services are not permitted.

An agency / intermediary may perform the administration on behalf of a client who wishes to give a presentation, but the client organisation must deliver the presentation itself.

The client's name will appear in all advertisements and publicity for the presentation.

Careers Fairs

Under normal circumstances, intermediaries may not attend Careers Fairs, but can deal with the administration of a client who wishes to attend.

The client's name will appear in all advertisements and publicity materials regarding the fair, including our Virtual Fairs website.

Other promotional activity

We will not hold, distribute or place posters or other promotional material, excepting the methods mentioned above. No other paper or leaflet-based information will be kept within the Careers Resource Centre.

The Careers Service will not facilitate the promotion of agency/intermediary services to academic schools, faculties or other parts of the University.

The Careers Service will not create web links to agency/intermediary websites or services in any place except through the CareersLink Organisation Directory.
