FAQs

What type of organisations are you looking for?
All Greater Manchester based businesses and organisations are welcome to participate. We are particularly looking to source work experience and insight opportunities within small businesses.

How do I get involved?
Please complete the Work Experience/Project Outline Form. If you have any questions, please email: recruitment@manchester.ac.uk

How do I select my student/s?
Students apply via a short application form with their CV, they can apply for up to three different opportunities. Applications are collected on your behalf and forwarded to you for your consideration. We suggest that you undertake a telephone interview with as many of the students that interest you so that you can choose the most appropriate student for your organisation.

How many students can I host?
The number of interns is the host’s decision. You can specify the number of places on your proposal form, but this number can remain flexible and dependent on the applications received.

Will students be paid?
As this is an insight programme the week will be unpaid, however students will have their travel related expenses covered through our Work Experience Bursary scheme. If you are able to cover students’ lunch costs, this would be appreciated.

I’m not based in Greater Manchester, can I still take part?
Unfortunately not. The programme is part of the university’s strategy to support Manchester city’s drive to retain student and graduate talent in the Greater Manchester City Region.

How much does it cost?
There is no direct financial cost to the organisation. There will be a time investment in terms of mentoring the student during the period, plus lunch expenses if you are able to provide them.

What help will I receive?
All organisations involved in the programme receive full administrative support throughout the process. Further support is provided to both the organisation and the student for the duration of the First Insight Week.

What happens if things go wrong?
The Careers Service’s internships team will be available at all times to provide you with support should problems arise during the week. If at any time you need advice and guidance, please do get in touch and we’ll be pleased to assist. You can contact the team via email: recruitment@manchester.ac.uk Tel: +44 (0) 161 275 2465
